Abandoned low price manor in Upenieki, 92 km to Riga

The small village of Upenieki with the Upesmuiža manor house is located on the Riga-Liepāja road, about 6 km from Biksti, near the Bērze River. There is a 300 m long access road from the main road. The oldest German name is Bächhof, a former manor of the Teutonic Order. After the dissolution of the Order, it became the domain of the Duke of Courland. 

Bächhof was later assigned to the owner of Jaunpils, Tys von der Recke. This family owned Bächhof until 1706. In 1712, the estate was sold to cavalry captain Karl Gustav von Klopmann and his wife Sofia Magdalena von Nolde for 35,000 guilders. In 1718, the owner of Bächhof was Johann Heinrich von Keyserlingk, Chancellor of Courland and owner of the Dsehrwen manor. After his death, his widow Margareta Anna von Schlippenbach continued to manage the estate. From 1739 to 1768, the von Stromberg family owned Bächhof. In 1768, the estate was bought by Ferdinand von Firks (1711-1794). The von Fircks family owned the manor house until 1920. After the land reform, a post and telegraph station was located in the manor house.

The small manor has 11 axes on a high plinth floor with a flight of steps at the front of the courtyard. It is crowned with a high crippled hipped roof. In front of it was originally a lawned traffic circle, fenced in by a driveway. On the southwest side is an overgrown terraced park with a gradually sloping relief.  There are several former farm buildings on the south side.  The Berze river borders the site.

The house is currently in very poor condition and requires urgent restoration work. The manor house is a monument of local importance and contains some historical substance.
