Between alpine panorama and Borromean islands

Baveno is a small town in the Piedmont region's Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province and, alongside the neighboring town of Stresa, is one of the key tourist destinations in the region, situated on Lake Maggiore. One of the reasons for this is its direct proximity to the Borromean Islands. Isola Bella and Isola Pescatori can be easily reached from the shore by ferry or boat.

In addition to its distinctive location near the famous islands, the town's landscape is characterized by granite quarries. The extraction of this valuable natural stone began as early as the 16th century, and its architectural peak in the 17th and 18th centuries resulted in numerous churches and chapels. Special pedestrian routes connect some of these religious buildings, offering occasional breathtaking views of the lake, making them popular destinations for tourists.

With the development of new trade routes facilitated by the opening of the Simplon Pass and the operation of the first tourist steamboats in the first half of the 19th century, Baveno began to gain importance as a tourist destination. However, it wasn't until nearly 100 years later, following the opening of the Simplon Tunnel in 1906, that the town experienced a significant influx of visitors. Today, Baveno caters to tourist demand with a variety of accommodations and dining establishments, including campgrounds, bed and breakfasts, vacation homes, and upscale four-star hotels.

Like other parts of the region, Baveno and its neighborhoods became popular locations for the prestigious residences of influential individuals and industrialists from Turin and Milan, thanks to their privileged locations with magnificent views. Today, several impressive villas with splendid gardens can be found here. Some of these are accessible to tourists, while others house luxury condominiums, although they are rarely available on the real estate market and are priced in the seven-figure range.
