Villa Macherslust in Eberswalde

In the district of Macherslust of the Brandenburg town of Eberswalde - stands somewhat off the road hidden behind trees an impressive Historicism villa.

Known regionally as Villa Macherslust, the building was constructed at the end of the 19th century and traces its origins to Julius Macher, mayor and landowner in Eberswalde in 1765.

Many architectural elements of the villa, which was last used as a residential home for the disabled, have been preserved over the years. The facade is richly decorated and draws on the full repertoire of historicism: loggias, bay windows, tower rooms, half-timbering, roof lanterns - there was no skimping on architectural features. The interior is dominated by a central vestibule with a skylight, a two-armed staircase, wood and stucco coffered ceilings, old floorboards and tiles, and winding rooms and side staircases.

Villa Macherslust has been vacant since the 1990s and was used only intermittently, for example, as a rehearsal space for musicians - those were the days when you could rent such adventure playgrounds for young and old in the former socialist areas for a tip.

Today (2021) the building has been elaborately restored and is used privately.
