An enclosing wall still traces the medieval layout of the original fortress.
The château is arranged over three levels of approximately 183 m² each. The top floor is used as an attic. The main living area includes a living room, kitchen, four bedrooms, a bathroom and a shower room, as well as a terrace on the upper level. On the porch level, four additional bedrooms remain to be renovated. A secluded garden in an elevated position completes the property.
History and architecture
The site is believed to have been an oppidum in Gallic times due to its strategic location. Before the year 1000, a first wooden fortification was established here. In the 11th century, it was transformed into a feudal stronghold with a four-level tower, vaulted cellars and defensive walls.
Severely damaged during the Hundred Years’ War, the château was rebuilt in the 15th century with a seigneurial residence, a chapel, Gothic architectural elements still visible today and various structural additions reflecting the period. A fire in the 17th century led to its destruction once again, followed by a reconstruction in the 18th century, giving it the appearance it retains today.
Once elevated to the rank of viscountcy, the estate was held by seigneurs bearing this title and is said to have hosted distinguished guests, including figures associated with Turenne.
