The converted courtyard property in Germignaga dates to the 17th or early 18th century and was originally an olive mill (frantoio); the original stone press remains in situ. As much of the comparable historic agricultural building stock on Lake Maggiore has been demolished or extensively altered, a preserved frantoio of this restoration quality is rarely available on the market.
The stone arch courtyard, the wraparound first-floor gallery and the cantilevered timber beam ceilings with slate roofing are characteristic features of the vernacular architecture of the Lake Maggiore region. The conversion to residential use has been carried out with close attention to the historic fabric; contemporary interventions such as the glazed living area and access staircases have been kept deliberately understated. The covered courtyard serves as a private outdoor living area.
