Brandenburg Palaces: Schloss Plaue

Schloßstraße, 14774 Plaue

Plaue Castle is an unrefurbished castle in the German state of Brandenburg. It is located in the Plaue district of the same name of the city of Brandenburg an der Havel.

The baroque two-wing building was erected in 1716 by Friedrich von Görne.

In the post-war years it served, among other things, as a recreation home and military hospital. In GDR times, the palace was heavily rebuilt and housed a language school. At the beginning of the 1990s, it came into the possession of the state of Brandenburg. Until today there have been several changes of ownership.

Despite the touristically developed location directly on the Havel River, Plaue Castle remains unrenovated to this day. In the castle, apart from the baroque staircase, only little has been preserved from the time of its origin. On the upper floor is a ballroom that extends over two floors and today presents itself unadorned with smoothly plastered walls.

Starting in 2021, Plaue Castle is to be remodeled. The plans include a concept for assisted living, as the Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung wrote in June 2016.
