European landmark estates. New custodians.
Baveno is a small town in the Piedmont province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and, together with Stresa, is one of the most important locations on the western shore of Lake Maggiore. Its position opposite the Borromean Islands shapes the town’s tourist character. Isola Bella and Isola dei Pescatori can be reached from the waterfront by boat within a short time.
The townscape is also shaped by the long tradition of granite quarrying, which began as early as the 16th century and provided the region with economic importance for centuries. During the 17th and 18th centuries, numerous churches and chapels were built, many of which still define the historic character of the town today. Walking paths connect these religious landmarks and include sections with views over the lake.
With the development of Alpine connections via the Simplon Pass and the introduction of steam navigation in the 19th century, Baveno gained increasing importance. A major boost for tourism came with the opening of the Simplon Tunnel in 1906.
Today, the town offers a well-developed tourist infrastructure with hotels, holiday homes, campsites and bed and breakfasts. At the same time, Baveno has become a sought-after location for prestigious villas due to its lakeside setting, particularly among industrialists and entrepreneurs from Milan and Turin.
Some of these historic properties are open to the public, while others have been converted into private residences or apartments. High-end properties are rare and often reach prices in the seven-figure range.

Further historic properties can be found in the surrounding locations around Lake Maggiore.
