European landmark estates. New custodians.
Oggebbio is not a single settlement but a municipality made up of around 15 villages and hamlets, with a total population of approximately 880 inhabitants. The settlements extend along the northwestern shore of Lake Maggiore and into the surrounding hillside areas.
The municipality is located on the Strada statale 34 del Lago Maggiore between Verbania and Cannobio and has several public lakeside areas along the main road. The property market here is primarily characterised by historic buildings.
Thanks to the largely unobstructed lake views along this section of Lake Maggiore, Oggebbio is a traditional villa location. The lakeshore and hillside areas are mainly characterised by privately owned villas. Many are set behind high walls and dense vegetation, with little visibility from the road. Often, the only indications of these properties are wrought-iron gates or driveways, some of which are located on the opposite side of the road.
The current traffic situation differs considerably from the period when many of these buildings were created: during the summer months in particular, the lakeside road is heavily used. Alongside Belle Époque villas, the area features numerous examples of Art Nouveau (Stile Liberty) architecture in varying forms, as well as historicist and eclectic façades.
