Located in the heart of Galicia’s Ribeira Sacra, in the parish of San Julián de Eire, Pazo de Ferreiroá is an 18th-century manor house. Formerly known as "Pazo del Bosque," the property is just 2 km from the centre of Pantón, in the province of Lugo. The earliest documents in the house archive date back to 1403.
History
In the 18th century, the property, already referred to as an “old house,” was owned by the Pallares and Gayoso families. In 1816, the owner was granted the title Conde de Pallares. At the end of the 19th century, the estate passed to the Pardo Salgado family and was subsequently linked through marriage to the Arias family of the Pazo de Maside, whose descendants still own it today. Heraldic shields of the Losada, Osorio, Quiroga, Somoza, López-Lemos, Saavedra and other families can be seen on the façades.
Architecture
The U-shaped building features a grand exterior staircase with balustrades, spacious rooms, a front courtyard and a rear conservatory. The public street frontage presents a closed façade. The main floor is accessed via the grand staircase, leading to the heraldic shields of the Pazo de Maside. The three-part ensemble is enclosed by a high wall with a gated entrance and heraldic shield. Access is via an avenue through an historic oak grove with centuries-old trees.
