Overview
This enchanting 18th-century château, located in the heart of the Somme Valley and within a regional natural park, is just 1 hour and 40 minutes from Paris. The estate combines historical prestige with a sublime natural setting: 18 hectares of landscaped park, monumental greenhouses, a private pond of approximately five hectares, and direct river access. The interior decoration, entirely preserved from the 18th century, is of museum quality and includes original paintings by Jean-Baptiste Huet.
Architectural Significance
Built in refined symmetrical brick-and-stone architecture inspired by an 18th-century architectural treatise, the château sits atop monumental south-facing terraces. Its design, reminiscent of the Hôtel de Biron (now the Rodin Museum in Paris), was initiated by architect Briseux in 1733 and published in L’Art de bâtir les maisons de campagne in 1743. The interior was completed by Pierre de Buissy around 1763, whose opulent vision is reflected in the gilded salons, painted woodwork, and artworks that grace the château today. Local lore suggests the château’s sumptuousness was inspired by a youthful romance with Adélaïde of France, daughter of Louis XV.
