Discover a Renaissance architectural gem, built on the remains of a 13th-century medieval fortress. The castle has hosted notable figures, including Emperor Charles IV, and was the site of the Battle of Mühlberg, a landmark event in the history of the Reformation. It is situated on the northern bank of the Elbe, between Torgau and Riesa, at a strategic crossroads connecting Saxony, Brandenburg, and the former Kingdom of Bohemia, giving it considerable historical significance. Together with the town of Mühlberg, the castle represents an important testament to Germany’s cultural heritage, valued for its history, architectural quality, and scenic setting.
In 2024, cracks were identified in certain areas of the castle, prompting temporary access restrictions. A complementary geotechnical and foundation study, to be completed by November 2025, will establish the path for targeted restoration works. Previously, architectural, structural, and timber condition surveys were carried out, culminating in a comprehensive Master Plan approved by the heritage authority. All necessary building permits have also been secured.
For the future owner, this presents a clear advantage: all essential surveys are complete, the restoration strategy is defined, and all approvals are in place. The costs of these studies and permits are included in the purchase price, saving both time and resources.
