Manor house in Gościeszyn near Poznan
, Gościeszyn
Manor house southwest of Poznań, created through the conversion of an older estate house between 1904 and 1911. Its present appearance is an example of late Historicism, as it was commonly found in Prussian manor houses in the former eastern German territories between Pomerania, Poznań and Silesia around the turn of the century. The combination of various revival styles, including Gothic Revival, Neo-Renaissance and Romanesque-inspired forms, gives the building its eclectic character.
The façade is entirely executed in light sandstone with rusticated masonry, giving the building a sense of classical solidity. The surrounding crenellated parapet and the integrated bell tower create a fortress-like appearance with a purely representative function. The central risalit is accentuated by a loggia with colonnades, a balustrade and round arches, displaying Neo-Renaissance motifs with Florentine influence.
The interior retains original period features, including the entrance hall with a curved wooden staircase, a library with original built-in fittings, and a two-storey ballroom added to the eastern side of the building, complete with balcony.
The palace served as a children’s home until the 1990s and, in 2026, is now being presented for the first time since its privatisation as a purchase opportunity.
