The historic house of Augusto Rey
This country house was built in 1895 by Augusto Rey, a painter of the Macchiaioli movement. It is located in Crespina, a short drive from Pisa and Lucca, and approximately 40 minutes from Forte dei Marmi.
The residence sits on a hill with panoramic views of the Tuscan valley. Surrounded by lakes, the estate covers 62 acres of woodland and includes approximately 1,000 olive trees.
In addition to the main house, the property comprises three further buildings: a caretaker’s cottage and two additional houses, Santernetti and Torre Alta. The latter two require renovation but contain frescoes by artists such as Giovanni Battista Tempesti and Roman Pietro della Valle.
An original painting by Augusto Rey hangs in the entrance hall. The interiors are designed in the style of a 19th-century art gallery, reflecting the Macchiaioli movement.
