Castles along the Rhine: Sooneck

Sooneck Castle is located between Bingen am Rhein and Lorch and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley since 2002. It follows directly on the left bank of the Rhine after Reichenstein Castle.

Sooneck has been state-owned and accessible to tourists since the end of the Second World War.

The picture shows the north side of the castle, which is considered less photogenic due to the (here not visible) quarry directly behind and is therefore rarely seen on drone images.
