Stunning Abandoned Mansion in Poland

Dworcowa 1, Kętrzyn

Along with the Ordensburg, the former Raiffeisen Bank is one of the most prominent buildings in Kętrzyn (Rastenburg in historic East Prussia). It is a massive two-story structure on a high basement with a developed mansard and tin roof. The central risalit with four pilasters is accented by a semi-circular portico with loggia above and terminated by a soaring triangular gable. Below the pediment are the dates 1895 and 1911.

The exterior appearance is essentially still original from the construction period and shows characteristics of Neobaroque. On the first floor there are two large halls on the left and right with decorative columns. However, the right hall has been reduced by partitions and divided into several offices. On the upper floor there is a discreet stair hall with a gallery, a wood-paneled sitting area, a fireplace and access to the balcony.

As of November 2020, only a small section of the house remains rented. The private owner left future plans for the impressive building open.
