Podwilcze - Neogothic Mansion

The Podewils family belonged to the well-known Prussian noble families in Pomerania and Upper Pomerania. Former estates of the family in historical Pomerania are preserved to this day.

Southwest of the town of Białogard, in Podwilcze, there is a particularly interesting Podewils estate, which was continuously owned by the family from 1720 to 1890. In 1890, the estate went to Max von Hewald, who had the manor house significantly enlarged and upgraded again in 1895. Among other things, a two-story side wing and a tower addition were added to the north side.

With its distinctive facade decoration in the form of battlements, pinnacles, striking stepped gables and predominantly pointed-arched windows, the manor is a representative example of the neo-Gothic style, which is also clearly visible on the driveway seen here.

In the course of the various post-war uses, the building has lost its original furnishings, although wooden paneling with neo-Gothic ornamentation still survives in isolated places. Today, the castle is a fixer upper object in need of renovation and cannot be visited. Recently (2022), emergency security measures were carried out.

Visitors may please note that the site is designated as private property and is inhabited. It is expressly requested not to enter it without permission even when the gate is open.
