One of Livonia’s most exclusive hunting lodges, now known as the boutique design guesthouse “Bergervilla,” is seeking new owners. The historic Vijciems hunting lodge ensemble is set in a picturesque location, enveloped by ancient pine forests that create an atmosphere of absolute peace and seclusion.
The original timber lodge was established in 1899 for the Livonian Knighthood but was subsequently destroyed during the unrest of 1905. The current substantial stone structure was built in 1907. It is believed to have been designed by the prominent Latvian-Baltic German architect Eižens Laube, who crafted the building in the National Romantic style.
The manor has meticulously preserved its historic character and now offers a seamless blend of period architecture and contemporary design. The estate comprises:
- Main house: Spanning 320.6 square metres, currently used to host guests in a sophisticated and refined setting.
- Forest SPA house: A 244.5-square-metre building dedicated to pure relaxation, featuring saunas and treatment rooms.
- Outbuilding: A practical storage facility of 18.1 square metres.
Following nationalisation in 1921, the building served the forestry administration for several decades. In the late 1980s, it was acquired by the VEF factory and developed into an exclusive hunting retreat, hosting prominent state guests including Presidents Guntis Ulmanis and Algirdas Brazauskas.
Since 2018, the estate has been fully restored and serves as a premier destination for cultural and gourmet travellers. It is a true sanctuary for nature lovers and romantics looking to enjoy the stillness of the forest within an architecturally significant monument.
