Marcienas Muiza is situated on the shores of Lake Dzirnavu, within one of Latvia’s most densely forested regions. The original Marcienas (Martzen) estate has a documented history dating back to 1753, when Empress Elizabeth of Russia granted the land to Count Fermor. It later passed to the von Maydell family, who commissioned several outbuildings - the ruins of which remain visible today - and expanded the manor house into a two-storey Neo-Gothic residence.
The original manor was destroyed in 1918 during the First World War and was not rebuilt. Drawing on the site’s tranquil rural setting, the current owners constructed a new hotel in the traditional manor house style in 2006, located approximately 3 km from the historical ruins. Since its completion, the property has operated as a three-star plus spa hotel with a capacity for 84 guests.
